Waste Incineration

Waste incineration makes a significant contribution to reduction of CO2 emissions.
Waste that cannot be recycled or reused is a useful fuel for the production of heat or combined heat and power. Denmark has incinerated waste for more than 100 years; and for most of that time the resulting heat has been used to produce power and/or heat, the latter mostly as district heating. The incineration plants of today are, in fact, high-tech energy plants.

It is actually an often overlooked fact that waste incineration is the most significant source of carbon neutral energy in Denmark, surpassing even wind power. The waste burned in incineration plants is mostly biomass, with low fossil carbon content, thus contributing to reducing emission of greenhouse gases.
